NFFS Welcomes New Member Matthews International Corporation

Posted By: Brianna Gianti NFFS,

The Non-Ferrous Founders’ Society (NFFS) is proud to welcome Matthews International Corporation and Matthews Additive Technologies as the newest additions to the NFFS membership community.

With a history spanning more than 175 years, Matthews International Corporation is a global industrial company with businesses and technologies serving customers across a range of industries. Through its Industrial Technologies and Memorialization segments, Matthews brings together extensive experience in manufacturing, engineering, technology and metalworking.

For the foundry industry, that experience takes on particular significance through Matthews Additive Technologies. As part of Matthews International, Matthews Additive Technologies combines a longstanding understanding of metal casting with advanced additive manufacturing capabilities, helping foundries and manufacturers address complex casting challenges through 3D-printed sand molds and cores, engineering, scanning, simulation and related services.

NFFS is pleased to welcome the Matthews organization and its team to the Society. We look forward to the expertise, capabilities and perspective Matthews will bring to the NFFS community and to introducing our members to a company with both deep roots in manufacturing and an eye toward the future of metalcasting.

About Matthews International Corporation & Matthews Additive Technologies

Founded in Pittsburgh in 1850, Matthews International Corporation has grown from a small engraving business into a global industrial company operating across two core business segments: Industrial Technologies and Memorialization. Today, Matthews combines a long history of manufacturing and metalworking with advanced technologies designed to improve how products are made, identified and moved through modern industry.

That manufacturing heritage has a direct connection to the foundry community. Matthews has been casting metal for nearly a century, providing firsthand experience with many of the challenges foundries encounter, from producing complex geometries and maintaining dimensional accuracy to reducing lead times and meeting demanding production requirements.

Building on that experience, Matthews Additive Technologies provides 3D-printed sand molds and cores for foundries and manufacturers. With operations in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Searcy, Arkansas, the business combines practical foundry knowledge with additive manufacturing technology and an experienced in-house design team.

Its capabilities extend beyond printing. Matthews Additive Technologies can support projects involving customer-supplied mold and core designs, design assistance, reverse engineering, scanning, flow simulation, project management and casting support. This combination allows the team to work with foundries at different stages of a project, whether the need is a specific printed mold or core or assistance developing a solution for a more challenging casting application.

For foundries, one of the key advantages is that Matthews’ additive manufacturing capabilities are backed by people who understand metalcasting. 3D sand printing can enable highly complex cores and molds, provide greater design freedom and offer an alternative to conventional tooling when geometry, lead time, development requirements or production volumes make traditional approaches challenging.

For OEMs, manufacturers, engineers and other companies that work with foundries, Matthews Additive Technologies can also help bridge the gap between part design and castability. Its combination of engineering, additive manufacturing and foundry experience can help teams evaluate complex designs and develop practical paths toward producing them as cast components.

Together, Matthews International Corporation and Matthews Additive Technologies bring the NFFS community an uncommon combination of established manufacturing experience and emerging production technology—connecting a company with more than 175 years of history to new capabilities that are helping shape the future of metal casting.
