Event Details
The inaugural meeting of the new NFFS Technical Committee will meet on Friday, June 6 at 1:00 pm ET.
Background and Objective
Naval shipyards and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) report persistent challenges in obtaining certain classes of non-ferrous metal castings that meet required quality standards and are delivered on schedule. These deficiencies, particularly prevalent in alloys such as Nickel Aluminum Bronze (NAB) and Copper-Nickel (CuNi), result in rework and installation delays, impacting shipbuilding timelines and increasing costs. Addressing these issues requires a comprehensive approach that not only improves the manufacturing practices in U.S. foundries for these alloy families but also provides part-specific assistance to manufacturers to aid in resolution of persistent quality defects. This project seeks to align U.S. foundry practices with global standards and improve the delivery performance of castings, ensuring they meet acceptable quality levels and can be installed without the need for rework.
