... did you know?
During our recent NFFS visit to Pittsburgh, we learned an interesting fact about one of the city’s most iconic symbols—the logo of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Known as the “Steelmark,” the emblem was originally created by U.S. Steel to highlight the strength and importance of American steel. Its three colored hypocycloids—yellow, red, and blue—represent coal, iron ore, and scrap steel, the essential materials used in steelmaking.
Today, the Steelmark is owned by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and proudly displayed on the helmets of one of the NFL’s most recognized teams. It’s a fitting tribute to Pittsburgh’s industrial roots and a reminder of the deep connection between America’s manufacturing heritage and its cultural identity.
