Organization Overview

Flow Science was founded in 1980 by Dr. C. W. (Tony) Hirt, a principal pioneer of the “Volume-of-Fluid” or VOF method. FLOW-3D is a direct descendant of this work, which Dr. Hirt completed while at Los Alamos National Labs. In the subsequent years, we have increased its sophistication with TruVOF, boasting pioneering improvements in the speed and accuracy of tracking distinct liquid/gas interfaces. Today, our FLOW-3D family of products offer complete multiphysics simulation to meet the specific needs of diverse industries, from civil engineering to advanced manufacturing, aerospace to biotech. Formerly based in Los Alamos and now headquartered in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Flow Science has grown to include a worldwide network of subsidiaries and independent partners. In 2024, we opened an office in Chapel Hill, North Carolina where in-person training and workshops are offered.

FLOW-3D CAST is a state-of-the-art metal casting simulation modeling platform that combines extraordinarily accurate modeling with versatility, ease of use, and high performance cloud computing capabilities. For every metal casting process, FLOW-3D CAST has a workspace ready to put you on a quick, intuitive path to modeling success. With 11 process workspaces, powerful post-processing, pioneering filling and solidification and defect analysis, FLOW-3D CAST delivers both the tools and roadmap for designing optimal casting solutions.
