As summer approaches, foundries must remain vigilant about the dangers of occupational heat exposure. Millions of U.S. workers are exposed to high temperatures on the job each year, and foundry workers—often operating near molten metal and heavy equipment—may also be at risk. Heat-related illnesses are preventable, yet OSHA continues to report thousands of cases annually, including fatalities.

Heat stress can lead to serious medical conditions such as heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and heat cramps. Symptoms include excessive sweating, dizziness, nausea, confusion, and fainting. Without timely intervention, heat stroke can become fatal. Risk factors include high ambient temperatures, physical exertion, heavy personal protective equipment, and lack of acclimatization for new or returning workers.

This timely NFFS webinar will help you understand:

  • The causes and warning signs of heat-related illness

  • Practical measures to protect workers from hazardous heat exposure

  • OSHA’s current requirements under the General Duty Clause (§5(a)(1)) and guidance from OSHA’s Heat Illness Prevention Campaign

  • What to expect from OSHA’s proposed rule on Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings, currently under development

Presenter Martha Guimond will walk attendees through real-world scenarios, compliance strategies, and effective heat illness prevention plans tailored for foundry environments. Whether your operation is indoors, outdoors, or both—this training will provide essential tools to protect your workforce and stay ahead of regulatory requirements.
