Non-Ferrous Founders' Society and the American Metalcasting Consortium (AMC)

The mission of the American Metalcasting Consortium (AMC) is to develop and apply procurement support and new technologies that rapidly deliver high quality, cost-effective cast parts to assist the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) in supporting today’s warfighter.

NFFS has enjoyed the longevity and the positive impact of its programs as part of the American Metalcasting Consortium (AMC). NFFS’s role in the AMC program is to deliver value to DLA while developing tools and resources that promote business opportunities, efficiencies, and cost savings to the cast metals industry. These programs deliver value because casting supply chains, once efficient during equipment production often over time become discontinued and fragmented.  Technical data and specified production methods, developed for high-volume production, are obsolete and insufficient for low-volume sustainment orders.  Necessary hard tooling and fixtures are lost. These problems, coupled with a diminishing domestic metalcasting supply base, directly result in unacceptably long lead times, back orders, excessive cost, and poor quality – all of which affect the ability of the DLA to rapidly procure and provide cast repair parts to the Armed Services.

AMC Programs

Defense Tooling Database
A secure online database of tooling for defense components resident in foundries and machine shops to provide government buyers visibility to sub-tier manufacturers and potentially eliminate the cost and production lead-time associated with creating new tooling.

 Integrated Casting Order Network (ICON)
The ICON portal was created to assist metalcasters with government business opportunities while promoting cost savings for Department of Defense Procurement Agencies, particularly the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). The system is comprised of three web-based tools: cast tooling database; the supplier database; and the foundry toolkit for government business which NFFS utilizes to identify and direct metalcasting solicitations in real time to foundries in possession of the critical tooling and/or with capabilities that match the required part. The program received the prestigious DLA Commander's Choice Award for providing significant cost savings and casting procurement efficiencies for DLA.
