On January 1st, the Non-Ferrous Founders’ Society officially released its new and improved Integrated Casting Order Network (ICON) Program, the online bid-matching program that aligns the metalcasting needs of the Department of Defense with the foundries who can manufacture the castings.

The new ICON Program comes with a new web address, icon.nffs.org. NOTE: Prior to logging in, all existing users, as well as new ones, must create an account in the new system by going to https://icon.nffs.org/register.

The new ICON portal features a variety of enhancements and new capabilities, including:

  • Improved Solicitation Data – Our new format makes the information most critical to our users easy to find and understand. No more cluttered windows and difficult to interpret data.
  • Improved User Interface – A cleaner interface with more intuitive navigation within the portal.
  • Faster System Response Time – A modernized architecture improves system response time and overall site performance.
  • Expanded Sales Opportunities – We have expanded our networks to provide visibility on nearly every defense and military related casting sales opportunity available to general industry.

Later in 2019, ICON users can look forward to additional functionality enhancements, such as:

  • A Quotation Management System – Submit and manage your quotations to the DLA.
  • A Contract Management System – Manage your contract awards.
  • An Inventory Management System – Identify existing inventory and catalog sales opportunities to defense, military and other customer industries.
  • Inclusion of the Machining Industry – Machine shops will be incorporated into the portal to take advantage of our supply chain solutions and provide new sales opportunity to ICON user foundries.

“The ICON portal is a unique partnership between the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), responsible for acquiring the replacement parts needed by our nation’s defense and military customers, and domestic foundries and die casters,” commented Jerrod Weaver, NFFS Executive Director. “It drives value to stakeholders by providing innovative procurement solutions for defense and military related metal castings.

“ICON uses a comprehensive industry capabilities database, and the nation’s largest database of foundry defense and military related tooling, to accurately direct bid requests from the DLA to foundries who have existing tooling, or may not have tooling but are capable of manufacturing that component. The result is a reestablished supply chain for the DLA and reduced administrative and production lead times in acquiring replacement metal castings, many times at a lower total cost to the Government by utilizing existing tooling and available industry capacity. We are excited about the release of our improved ICON portal on January 1st, and look forward to continuing to serve this country’s warfighters and the foundries that support them.”
