OSHA's New Respirable Silica Standard FAQs Document

On March 25, 2016, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) published a final rule regulating occupational exposure to respirable crystalline silica (silica) in general industry. In January 2019, OSHA issued its Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) document, developed in consultation with industry and union stakeholders, to provide clarification from the Agency about some specific provisions of the rule.

These FAQs provide guidance to employers and employees regarding the standard's requirements. This document is organized by topic and includes a short introductory paragraph for each group of questions and answers to provide background information about the underlying regulatory requirements. As with most government documents, what it says and what it means may not always be the same or be obvious.

Join NFFS for a review of the OSHA FAQ document, and learn about the impact the FAQs have on your foundry’s respirable silica program.
