Benefits of Membership
Share |

The Non-Ferrous Founders’ Society has the unique ability to focus its attention on issues that really matter to non-ferrous foundries. This is primarily due to the fact that all of the Society's board members are themselves owners or top executives of non-ferrous foundries. At every board meeting, the board devotes part of its agenda to identifying and addressing current issues and concerns, including how NFFS can help its members with their most pressing challenges.

The Society’s philosophy has always been to leverage past successes to create new programs and services to assist member foundries today and in the future.  NFFS will continue to add new programs and services as needs arise, so please feel free to contact NFFS with your input, or submit an idea through our Idea Box.

ADVOCACY & INDUSTRY REPRESENTATION

For over 70 years, NFFS has served as the voice for non-ferrous foundries. The NFFS staff and Government Affairs Committee actively monitor new legislative and regulatory developments in Washington, as well as at the regional and state levels, and effectively represents the interests of non-ferrous foundries. All U.S. non-ferrous foundries have at some point benefited from the Society's efforts to protect the industry from misguided or overly burdensome regulations.

In past years, the Society filed comments on the proposed Silica Rule, commented on the NFPA’s revision to its guidance standard on combustible dust, submitted recommendations regarding EPA’s planned implementation of the Safe Drinking Water Act amendments that reduced the permissible lead content limit, and met with representatives of the Office of Management & Budget concerning revisions to the copper benchmarks in the proposed EPA Stormwater Multi-Sector General Permit. In 2016, NFFS was the only trade association to advocate against the OSHA Beryllium Rule on behalf of general industry. You can have confidence that NFFS will continue to defend the concerns and interests of your foundry when government regulations affect our industry.

NETWORKING & FELLOWSHIP

Industry Executive Conference

NFFS offers opportunities for foundry leaders and employees to meet with their peers and develop a network of lasting business relationships. The annual Industry Executive Conference, traditionally held in October, provides the opportunity to connect with industry colleagues, see old friends, and make new ones, all while enjoying high-quality educational programming tailored specifically to non-ferrous foundries. In addition, attendees have the opportunity to interact with industry suppliers at at the Industry Executive Conference Tabletop Exhibition, and to share ideas and experiences with other foundry leaders in a series of relaxed, social events designed to facilitate relationship-building.

Membership Directory

NFFS facilitates communication between members by providing member employees with access to the NFFS Membership Directory, in a convenient print format or accessible 24/7 at www.nffs.org. If you have a question, there is likely a NFFS member who knows the answer!

Leadership Opportunities

Another great way to establish relationships with key players in the foundry industry is to take advantage of leadership opportunities through the Society. NFFS encourages its members to participate on one of its many volunteer committees, where members work together to further the work of the Society. The active NFFS committees include: Audit, Bylaws, Finance, Scholarship, Government Affairs, Investments, Membership, Next-Gen, Strategic Planning, Programs.

EHS GUIDANCE & EXPERTISE

NFFSummit Health & Safety Webinars

NFFSummit webinars are offered on the second Tuesday of every month, at no additional cost to NFFS members. These on-line meetings enable attendees to engage in live discussion about a variety of environmental health and safety topics. A recording of these webinars is sent to all registered attendees following the webinar, and the slides are archived on the NFFS website for download 24/7. The archive of webinar slides includes over 50 different health and safety topics, including respirable silica, lockout/tagout, the EPA R Form, air sampling, stormwater sampling, OSHA inspections, and much more.

For over 25 years, the OSHA and EPA compliance specialists at Joseph A. Guimond & Associates have worked to assist NFFS members with their environmental health and safety questions and problems. Skip and Martha Guimond are well known as industry experts in providing no-nonsense compliance assistance and advice. They are available to members via the NFFS Regulatory Compliance Hotline, and most consultations are without additional cost.

One of the most important goals of the Non-Ferrous Founders' Society is to reduce the burden that laws and regulations create for foundries. The Society has an archive of written safety and health program templates for use by NFFS members to help them simplify compliance with many of the regulations that apply to our industry. These documents can be downloaded and then edited to customize them to your facility. Templates are available for a wide variety of topics, including:

  • Asbestos,
  • Bloodborne Pathogens,
  • Cadmium,
  • Confined Space,

401K Multiple Employer Program (MEP)

Recruit and retain your valuable employees by offering a 401(k) Retirement Plan! The NFFS MEP plan through Transamerica Retirement Solutions provides NFFS members with access to a customized retirement plan with a robust selection of investment choices. A Multiple Employer Plan is an arrangement by which a retirement plan is sponsored by a Professional Employer Organization (PEO)--in this case, the Non-Ferrous Founders' Society.

With today’s Multiple Employer Plans (MEPs), small businesses can receive the economies of scale that have generally been reserved for large businesses. NFFS handles the plan administration, just as it handles payroll tax returns. Since the plan files a single 5500, the costs of preparing that 5500, as well as the costs of preparing plan updates to deal with changes in the law, can be spread over all adopting employers, potentially resulting in major savings.

Energy Buyers Program through APPI

The Non-Ferrous Founders Society has endorsed APPI Energy to provide data-driven procurement solutions that reduce and manage electricity and natural gas supply costs for members on an ongoing basis. Every day, APPI Energy identifies the wide range of energy supplier prices across the U.S., and utilizes that data to provide the lowest prices available among many vetted, competing suppliers. For more information, download the informational brochure, APPI Energy Solutions (PDF).

Stan Bass, President of Fort Worth Aluminum Foundry, said the following: "APPI Energy helped us complete an energy efficiency retrofit project that did not require any out-of-pocket costs. Making apples to apples price comparisons, and forcing suppliers to compete for our business, our company was able to make the most informed buying decision."

If you have further questions about this membership benefit program, contact Carrie Shepard at APPI Energy at 667-330-1167.
